SOR GRADUATING CLASS OF 2023
It's that sad and exciting time of year, when we prepare to send our graduating seniors out into the world. Whatever their plans may be, we hope they remember their time hear with much joy & happiness, and take music with them, wherever they may go in the future!
Below are a few parting works of wisdom from the School of Rock Vienna Class of '23 - CHEERS & CONGRADUATIONS!!
Aaron Smith
Aaron will studying Electrical Engineering at George Mason University this fall. His advice to the students following in his SoR footsteps is try to have a good balance between practicing things that are fun and things that will make you better. Take what you do seriously for the sake of your bandmates. I will miss my friends and playing live performances if I don't get the chance to play live again.
Boonyalongkorn Panyachaiyasitti
Brook plans to attend college at Virginia Tech after graduation. Brook's advice to the next generation of SoR Rockers is don't stress too hard and have fun, despite your mistakes. Practice can go a long way, but you should seek performances because they build your experience and confidence. Brook is going to miss the instructors because they were really fun to work with.
Izzy Vanderhart
Izzy is going to Mary Washington , studying Conservation Biology and Pre-Vet Sciences and hopefully minoring in Music. Izzy's advice is to have fun at SoR and work hard! Try and get yourself to practice everyday, even if just for a bit and get into a rhythm. It’s a lot less stressful when you’ve prepared all your material. But try not to let the stress get to you, and just enjoy playing music with your friends. I liked the structure it gave me. It was a really great opportunity to practice musical skills and life skills, while also meeting some of my best friends. I’m really gonna miss having rehearsals every week and just playing music with people, though hopefully I’ll get to continue that in college.
Lex Dembosky
Lex Dembosky will be attending the School of the Art Institute of Chicago to study visual art. Her advice for the new generation of SoR Rockers is to find ways to challenge yourself through playing things that you are excited to play. Set difficult goals for yourself, even if they seem out of reach. Most importantly, have fun and don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. The best thing about my time at SoR Vienna has been meeting so many amazing musicians and having the opportunity to perform with and learn from such incredible people. I’m not sure where I’d be today without them, and they’ve given me memories that I’ll cherish forever. I will miss them all so much, and I can’t thank them enough for welcoming me into their lives.
Michael Fazen
Michael will be going to college to study film. It's important to remember that a huge reason you’re here is to enjoy yourself and the time with your friends. If you ever feel overwhelmed with songs or feel anxiety about performing, remember that nobody is perfect, and that you can cut yourself some slack once in a while. Have fun with it, your time at SoR goes by way quicker than you think. I'll definitely miss the friends I’ve made. Some of my best memories of middle and high school have been related to playing shows and spending time with my SoR friends. Having that shared interest of performing together connects you in a way that very few other things do, and I’m super grateful for it.
Paul MacDonald
Paul will be attending Dickinson College as a Music major. His parting advice is just be yourself and enjoy your time up on stage. Paul has enjoyed playing music with his friends, and will miss that when I graduate. He will also miss his Teachers, Dante and Johnnie. They have helped me immeasurably as a musician over the last 6 years.
